  1. I think that one thing you should address is being politically savvy (in regards to Corporate America). Who do you trust? Who's out for your best interest? How can you recognize hidden agendas? How do you equip the right people in your corner to have your back when you don't even know you are being thrown under the bus? How do you effectively network in a facebook, myspace, and now twitter world?

  2. I think one important thing about self-branding is maintaining identity.

Identity is one of the strongest components of your self-brand, but it is also one of the easiest things to lose. This is usually prevalent when we enter a new work/professional environment. Many of us initially assume the "when-in-Rome" policy, but some of us will lose our character completely by fully adapting to the behavioral work "status-quos".

How much of our natural personalities should be emitted (so-to speak) in a professional environment? What can we bring to the table to develop or improve our contribution to the work environment, so as to embed our identities into the "indispensable pool" of workers? People who have jobs that limit growth potential may struggle with this problem the most.

Much like a real, strong brand (say, Q-Tip or Tylenol), we must learn to stabilize our identities so they not only set us apart from the rest (be it our co-workers or competitors), but also grant us confidence and sustainability! We must also learn how to determine our identity -- learning this will give our brand STRENGTH. Is it work ethic? Personal style? Delivery? Character? Insight? So many people can talk a good game but fail to DELIVER. Thus, they taint their brand (or lack thereof). A strong brand identity not only appears great on the outside, but lives up to its approbation. A strong brand emits quality, viability, and (commercial) success. With so many generics out there, and with an influx of new brands, it's easy to blend in and get lost. How can we glow in the dark?
